A significant benefit of scenarios is found from people using them to inform their own thinking about the future. It can be an enjoyable experience for people to leave their day jobs behind for a few hours, and to consider the wider environment and where libraries fit in the changing landscape. It is also a useful way to help people acknowledge that the future is uncertain – we do not, and cannot, know the future – and to reduce fear, uncertainty and doubt.
Typically this will be achieved by going through a scenario planning activity at a seminar or workshop, ideally with an experienced facilitator.
